Rockefeller Empire State Plaza is the brightly lit complex that houses many of New York's state offices. The tallest building is the 44-story Corning Tower. The Meeting Center, referred to as the "Egg", is the only curvilinear building in the complex and contains two auditoriums. Henry Hudson, for whom the Hudson River is named, discovered Albany while seeking a shorter route to the far-east in 1609. The city, first settled by the Dutch in 1624, became the capital of the state of New York in 1797.

Founded in 1645, Annapolis once served as the Capital of the United States. The Boston skyline can be seen in the distance. Originally a stone tower built in 1716 and maintained with a tax on shipping, it was blown up by the retreating British during the Revolutionary War. It was rebuilt at a height of seventy-five feet in 1783 and later was raised to eighty-nine feet in 1859. In 1989, Congress voted to keep this lighthouse manned. It remains the only lighthouse in the United States with a permanent keeper.

The next tallest structure to its left is Travelers Tower, which was completed in 1919 and was New England’s tallest building for many years. The gold-domed Connecticut State Capitol is visible left of Travelers Tower. The bridge to the far right is Bulkeley Bridge, which was built in 1908. Mark Twain, the prolific American author, resided in Hartford from 1871 to 1891. During this very creative time, he wrote classics such as Life on The Mississippi and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

The Speedway is the site of the first sporting event in New England to draw over 100,000 guests in a single day and remains New England's largest sports facility in terms of seating capacity. The track officially opened in 1990 with its first NASCAR race, a Busch race, in July of that year. Today, the track hosts two annual NASCAR NEXTEL Cup races including the first race in the "Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup", the SYLVANIA 300. The facility includes a 1.058-mile oval super speedway and a 12-turn 1.6-mile road course.
